16:9: The Essential Unit of Influence

My working life plays out within the 16:9 slide. It’s my loyal sandbox, my favorite arena. The sequence of ideas. The tool of persuasion. The frame through which influence (or at least the attempt) takes shape.

I love the slide because it pressurizes thought. One at a time. Each frame a moment of clarity. String enough together and now you have choreography. Not through space, but through ideas. A rhythm that carries the reader from one thought to the next, without ever feeling the slide change beneath them.

Wielded well, the 16:9 tightens your thinking, then lets it expand. It sets up, then delivers. Holds back, then unfolds. A single frame becomes the atomic unit of persuasion. The smallest big thing I can make to change someone’s mind.

What is that for you? What’s your essential unit of influence? The smallest thing you craft that shapes how people think, move, decide? A well-placed sentence? A riff that resets the energy in the room? A perfectly timed question?

Find it. Hone it. Give it the attention it deserves. Because it works harder than you think.
And if you do it right, by the time the moment has passed, no one remembers the form.
They just remember the idea.
